Finding Parenting Resources

A parent can feel bombarded by all the different sources of information out there – it can be very hard to know where to start. One good place to begin is to look for help in the medium you feel most comfortable with. Parenting information can be found in:

  • Parenting books. There are many different books on discipline, feeding, potty training, sleeping and more. You can learn a lot from experts in parenting. Don't feel like you have to take every bit of advice, though; pick and choose what works best for you.
  • Parenting magazines. Parenting articles can supply information quickly when you don't have the time to read an entire chapter or book. Often, they may contain ideas from other parents and readers that can help put you back on the right path.
  • Parenting websites. Parenting chat rooms and parenting forums are the fastest way to connect with other parents when you're in a bind. Got a breastfeeding problem or a sick kid that can't wait for a doctor's appointment? Other parents can share in real-time what worked for them. Be careful with the advice you receive, however; no one should be prescribing any medication or treatment except your child's doctor.
  • Parenting videos. For things like potty training, breastfeeding or even learning how to talk to your kids about sensitive subjects, parenting videos can be a great way to kick back and learn without feeling judged by other parents.

There are many parenting resources available to you. Do your research and seek out the ones that will work best for your situation, and take the hassle and fear out of not knowing what to do when it comes to parenting challenges.
